Hi! I'm the person behind CalcMyCraft. Most evenings you'll find me with something unfinished in my hands. I paint with alcohol ink — those bright, unpredictable blooms of color you see around this site. I make lace with a tatting shuttle (frivolité), which is slow, tiny and wonderfully calming. And I'm a beginner knitter, which means I'm still learning, still counting stitches out loud, and still occasionally unravelling an evening's work.
How this site started
It began with a scarf. I bought the yarn the way most beginners do: I picked a color I loved and grabbed what looked like "enough." It wasn't. Row by row the ball got smaller, and long before the scarf was the length I'd imagined, I ran out — so I simply bound off and called it finished, a good bit shorter than I'd planned.
My alcohol ink paintings start the same way every time: a few drops of ink, a hair dryer, and watching the colors push each other into shapes I could never plan. Browsing other ink artists' work, I kept seeing their paintings turned into glossy coasters and trays sealed with resin. Curious, I started reading resin tutorials — and every one of them began with "measure exactly how much you need." Which, of course, meant more math.
In both cases, the answer was simple — the kind of calculation every pattern and product label assumes you already know. I went looking for simple calculators and found ones that were cluttered, out of date or hard to use on a phone. So I started making my own, the way I'd want them: quick, clear, free, and easy to use with yarn in one hand.
What you'll find here
Calculators for knitting, crochet, resin, quilting, needlework and more, each with a plain-English explanation of the math behind it. Every calculation runs in your browser: nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored.
Because I'm still learning some of these crafts myself, I check each calculator against published sources and list them on the page. The results are planning estimates — your pattern, your tension and your product's instructions always come first.
